I had a walk round Westburn Cemetery, which is bit too modern for my taste, but I did stop for a bit at this stone, which is one of those eye-catching, heart-breaking lists of dead children, from not so very long ago.

Curiosity took me to the absolutely wonderful Scotland’s People:

where the census of 1891 told me that Thomas Marshall and Susan Brownlie had at least ten children, four of whom seem to have outlived their parents.
