tempus fugit

Bibiography

St Mark's day is April 25th but it's been a cold spring so St Mark's flies,
Bibio marcii,  have been late to hatch.

They are those hairy black flies  that suddenly seem to fill the air from late April. They look unappealing especially because they move lazily in the air with their legs dangling. They're harmless though and live only a few days, just long enough to mate and die.

Fish love them, trout leap for them and I managed to capture a few with my camera. Another (on cow parsley) as an extra.
