Some small progress
W had another very busy and productive day in the garden and polytunnel. All being well, we should be well supplied with broad beans, peas and tomatoes. We're a little short of runner/French beans - we may have to make a trip to the garden centre to get some baby plants - but he has sorted the bed out to await them.
Meanwhile, I managed to get my motivation up enough to tackle some gardening. I weeded and planted up this bed behind our living room. Back in 2014, we planted this bed (seen here on the right) with heucheras and bulbs. Then I had the idea that I wanted some height, and we planted three little trees. One is now climbing up the fence in a very satisfactory fashion. The other two were the droopy standard things that are quite commonly sold in garden centres, and they were not a good choice for this very limited bed - they drooped over the path, and shaded out all the heuchera - just a couple of which survived - one at each end. So earlier this year, W pulled these trees up, and I've now planted some new heuchera. We probably should also plant some more bulbs in the autumn - there are a few snowdrops and crocus still clinging to life, but most of the ones we planted seem to have been outcompeted by the trees.
