Lonely spectator
We had a great day today when we finally made it to the other side of town to see the new Optus Stadium and the spectacular Matagarup Bridge. As luck would have it a very kind Security Guard allowed us to have a quick look inside the stadium itself and to view the arena. If you will look closely you may spot a very lonely spectator who is either very early for the next footy match or has refused to leave after her team lost to the Eagles over a week ago. LOL It was a great thrill for both of us. I have added extras of the bridge which is a 400 metre long pedestrian bridge and crosses the Swan River.
What’s in a Name?
Matagarupwas chosen to recognise the cultural significance of the immediate Swan River area to the Whadjuk community. Matagarup is the name given by traditional landowners to the area around Heirisson Island, meaning a place where the river is only leg deep, allowing it to be crossed.
