It was a very wet walk through woods to the top of Kinnoull Hill near Perth where the views would have been stunning on a clear day towards the mountains in the north and west and the Fife hills in the south. Almost constant rain obliterated them although we did get a glimpse of the “silvery Tay” over 700 feet below the vertical crags as it flowed east towards the sea. An iconic image of Perth often shows the Tower which was built by the local landowner about 200 years ago as an impressive ruin to imitate the castles on hills overlooking the Rhine in Germany. The photo was taken from the edge of the precipice beside the tower with the main road to Dundee and Aberdeen far below and in the distance can be seen fields covered by polythene sheltering strawberries in an area which is noted for fruit growing.
