Walk

In the morning I met my student, Tony. It has been a tradition to have our lesson on Sunday mornings, since he is very perky in the morning and his family isn't. We always find useful things to work on and our meetings are as fun and "learningful" for me as they are to him. Today the lesson lasted two and a half hours, so a lot of ground was covered.

After lunch I could see outside my window that the weather was changing rapidly. The temperature was rising from seven degrees in the morning to thirteen degrees by lunchtime, and it continues, we're supposed to have twenty degrees warmth here tomorrow, that will be so nice. "Here comes the sun, the smile's returning to our faces".

Our Wandering Group or Hiking group, perhaps had decided on an eight km walk in the late afternoon in the nice weather on "Alvaret", the plain, covering most of the south part of my island. The orchids has already arrived, the extra shows you "Adam and Eve" (dactylorchiza latifolia), it seems to be a good year for orchids this year, we saw an abundance of leaves from orchids-to-be. 

We also saw this "larva train". Long strings of larva on the dirt road we were walking on. This string of larva was well over a meter long, and we saw several during our walk. We think it might have been this species. If so, I'm glad we didn't try to touch their hairs. Descriptions say that they sting like nettles and the hairs stay in the skin and are difficult to get rid of.  One larva can have 700 000 hairs on its body. They were close to two cm long and clearly looking for food. They can some years be a pest and cover bushes with a net while the eat all the leaves. Walking in the evening was really nice, we might do that sometimes, instead of walking in the morning.
