Runcorn / Widnes Bridge

Before the bridge there was a transporter. This shows the loading ramp to the gondola. The transporter was opened in 1905 and was replaced by the new bridge in 1961. I remember it well, we used to cycle over the bridge and back home to Appleton on a Saturday morning. James Britton, Andrew Harding, Richard Ditchfield, Alan Jones and I. There aren't many of us left.
