Castle Knott from Barbon

We were very lucky with the weather today. The overnight rain had fallen as snow above about 400-500m on the Lake District fells and it was a beautiful sunny morning. We had hoped to be walking in the early morning but tomorrow’s forecast is not as good in the afternoon so we have decided to go see the loppers today rather than tomorrow. The drive through the lakes is spectacular. I’ve rarely seen the fells with snow on in sunny weather. They are impressive and somehow look bigger.
We are lucky with the weather it’s about 10C in the garden but warm enough with a coat on while the sun is out. We have not seen them since august - it’s great to see them “in 3-D” as storksrock puts it rather than on zoom. After a couple of hours the sun goes away and it begins to spit with rain so we call it a day
When we get back to our cottage we have time for a local walk up Castle Knott from Barbon.just an out and back. It starts sunny - the photo is on the way up but near the top it starts hailing at about a 45 degree angle and we get free exfoliation.
