Kempt and unkempt hedges

It seems to be the roadside hedges that are easily attacked by a thresher on the tractor that are tidied up - I hate seeing these mutilated hedges with their smashed and torn branches when they are newly cut and would almost prefer to see them left alone although obviously that wouldn't work either! And to be fair, it doesn't take long for the hedge to recover a decent and undamaged shape. We used to make a much tidier job of it with the cutter bars in the seventies but they cannot tackle the larger branches and are slower. Everything will green up soon and all signs - well, nearly all signs - of the mutilation will be hidden!
