Birdcage Walk
Fans of Helen Dunmore might have read one of her last books - called ‘Birdcage Walk’ and set in Bristol at the time of the French Revolution. The walk itself is a beautiful long archway of cordoned lime trees, just beginning to open today. The main male character in the book is a builder who is working on a crescent of houses - and that is the extra - the Royal York Crescent. It was completed in 1820 and was (maybe still is?) the longest continuous crescent of houses in existence. Walking around Clifton in the sunshine is a great pleasure.
