Project 365 day 124: Cloudscapes

There were wonderful, constantly changing cloudscapes over the downs today. I planned to go in search of hawthorn blossom for a Beltane Tiny Tuesday blip, but it's not really out yet, and although I've shared the view from my back door or balcony many times already, it's always different. Now the landscape is greening, with more colour in the trees, hedgerows and fields, though dry brown earth is also visible at the top of some of the fields.

It's been a positive day. This morning the Tesco order arrived without anything missing and with a decent sized cauliflower after last week's tiny one. This is probably luck rather than a response to my note to the picker, but I continue to hope that someone looks at my instructions and occasional pleas. Tesco online orders have been indispensable over the past year, and we have generally found the system efficient and the delivery drivers friendly and helpful, but I have missed the opportunity to select my own vegetables. This afternoon I baked cupcakes with J, who enjoys hand-over-hand involvement in making cakes; we made blondie cupcakes, which were quick and easy as the butter and sugar are melted rather than creamed, and they don't have frosting, just lots of chocolate chips. She has a plug-in cupcake baker, a gift from P years ago which I initially dismissed as a pink gimmick but have found very useful, as it is far more energy efficient than heating the oven, cooking eight cupcakes at a time in about five minutes per batch. They turned out well and we ate more than we should have done. I've also prepared a big heap of chard, as P is clearing last year's plants out of the vegetable garden, and done some mending on the sewing machine, a quietly mindful and satisfying activity which I always enjoy.
