Fully vaccinated birthday
We went for a walk on the beach, drove back to Portland, and went to our favorite dessert restaurant, where we sat in what used to be the street and has now been taken over for outdoor restaurant seating. There we ordered our favorite dessert, Boccone Dolce, to fully celebrate her 75th. (Last year we made our own version at home, and with all hair salons closed, she was forced to deal with the haircut I gave her.) Here is Sue today, back in Portland at my place, wearing a proper haircut and the necklace I ordered for her from a place in Cornwall after reading Arachne's blips back in February and admiring Eyre's jewelry.
On the way driving home, we talked about the many changes the pandemic has made in all our lives. Those most affected are those who have friends or family who died of Covid or are experiencing Long Covid. Then there are all those whose livelihoods have been altered. Restaurants that have not gone bankrupt are managing with a fraction of the seating they used to offer, or seating people on sidewalks and in what used to be parking spaces outdoors. Singers, dancers, actors, and musicians are hoping to be able to work again. Many people in the global south are still waiting for vaccines to arrive. People who used to gather with others to socialize are still leery of doing so.
Thanks to you all for your birthday wishes for Sue. This community is part of my life, and I am grateful for it. I'll be back to my writing project now, so I'm turning comments off again for a while, thanking you yet again for all your journals and all your comments.
