The Fisherman,
He has been on the blue door in my shed since many years. He has hit my countrymen`s souls for 100 years. I have always believed he was from the northern part of our country were the fishermen live. Have seen him hanging on walls many places in our country. A well known face to many. However, when I googled him I learnt he was not a Norwegian. He was Dutch, his name was Dorus Rijkers (1847- 1928). A very popular rescueship captain that rescued many at sea. The painter, Harry Haerendel was from Hamburg, Germany. That doesn`t change anything in my soul. By knowing the history behind the picture it means more to me. Now you know him too. Wish you a good new week.
