Perfect Day - Near Enough
We make memories every day but there are some days when those memories will stay with you a long time, if not forever.
Today was such a day, Clare and I were up early, bacon roll and tea for Mrs S, sausage bap and coffee for me and we were away.
Devoran Quay at 8:00am to get the gig ‘Frayed Knot’ into the water and then we were off.
Bliss
Flat calm and sunny as we set off up Restronguet Creek. Clare had been looking forward to giving gig rowing a go and with the help of four volunteers three of us Veterans got to row, it’s what Saturday mornings were made for.
All too soon we were back at the beach and recovering the gig onto its trailer ready to head off to Mylor. An hour on the water made possible by the fantastic volunteers who give of their time so freely and the Gig Clubs who lend us expensive equipment at no charge.
Home via the fishmongers and the country store, For our proper breakfast Mrs S settled for almond croissants, fresh kippers for me. By 11:00am we had been out rowing, shopped, had two breakfasts and were ready for the day. Showered we set off with Paddy for his weekly ‘long’ walk which includes coffee on the beach for us humans.
Dinner in the evening was fresh John Dory fillets, pan fried with capers and butter, served up with a salad, all locally produced. A tot of my Cornish spiced rum rounded off a great day before settling down to watch some gratuitous violence on the TV which left Mrs S and I both feeling drained.
But what a great day.
