Maidenhair Spleenwort

Maidenhair spleenwort, one of several varities of spleenwort which grow in the UK. This one is usually found on rocks and walls and has lovely wire like fronds and petit round leaflets. The name 'spleenwort' derives from the belief that the plant helped to cure illnesses of the spleen.

I found this spleenwort growing at the Cross Kirk in Peebles. It was high on one of the old stone walls of the kirk so I had to take the photograph looking up towards the sky. A very cold and damp day but it was really refreshing to be outside in the fresh air.
