Faux Fish

A food blip!!

Out for an errand today and stopped at Whole Foods to see if they had any faux fish.   Just this tuna.  So we had tuna salad for lunch…I love tuna salad sandwiches.  (add onion, celery, mayonnaise, salt, pepper and lemon)   Verdict?  Pretty Good!  I think the texture (the hardest part for fake sausage or certainly for my soy meatballs I used to make) )was right on and it had a good flavor.  I’ll get it again.   This company makes “crabcakes too…I’ll have to hunt for those…
But I’m not about to change my whole diet because of that Seaspiracy movie…there are whole cultures that would starve without their fish to eat.  We mostly eat vegetarian anyway with a few fish thrown in.  Tuna and Salmon being the ones we like and would miss.   I guess I’d miss the herring too, especially at Christmas.   Tuna could be taken care of, mostly I mix it with other food.    Salmon is a big problem here…stores (including Whole Foods and Ivar’s Seafood House) are rejecting the salmon catch being sold to them because the fish are too small!  There has been a lot of work to restore habitat for the salmon to spawn including getting rid of dams, but it’s still not sustainable.   (yet?)  And the endangered resident Orcas only eat king salmon  so I would put them first.  A blipper sent me a recipe for “salmon” made out of carrots (!) but it’s not likely I”ll be cooking  anything like that anytime soon.

Thank you to all you wonderful blippers for the  comments stars and hearts for  my 11 year blip..which was so soon after 4000.  (At least there’s won’t be another for a long while.)  this year would have been so much worse without this beautiful community of positive caring people.
