National Memorial Arboretum
Today we had a cooked breakfast, then packed a picnic, and drove to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas. Its the second time I've been, and third time for Jon. Its just up the road from a close friend who I was at college with. Karen volunteers here each Sunday. A rewarding job, she says. We spent 4 hours here today, walking around the different memorials, to all the different services. I left a poppy at the Royal Engineers memorial in memory of dad. There was even a memorial for National Service. A peaceful place, to reflect on how many different people from so many different walks of life; different services and from all over the world. Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.
We left there at 4 and dropped in on Karen for a socially distanced catch up on her patio. A real sun trap. So lovely to see her and Neil and a brief chat with their middle son Adam too. We had fish and chips together outside, with the gas heater keeping us warm!
Now we are heading back to the caravan. But there is a diversion.....
