The Beech Avenue
We only went for a short walk today. We've not been able to find out much about the origins of this fine beech avenue, which is high on a ridge, and provides a boundary for the now disused Bushfield Army camp, to the South of Winchester. In early summer, White Helleborine plants can be found flowering there. Sometimes we ramble over the site of the camp; the more rundown and over grown it has become, over the past forty years, the more it has become a haven for wildlife, but its future is uncertain with the pressure to build more houses.
