Misty day
A lovely but misty day down near Bordeaux Harbour, near Vale Castle.
Loved the beautiful natural colours of the pebbles and it always amazes me how many different colours there are.
You can see that today we have a fairly dense sea mist which means all 3 fog horns are sounding...a very eerie noise and you can hear aeroplanes searching for the airport.
Sadly, when Guernsey airport was located, many years ago, they built it in the south of the island which is 300ft above sea level but it is also the place most prone to sea mist and fog...bit of an error some of us think.
The airport has or will have the latest electronic aids so finding the airport is actually no problem but I don't think the aircraft which come here have automatic landing systems so, the pilot has to be able to see the runway before he lands.
What usually happens is the aircraft comes in to approach and at a certain altitude if he can't see the runway he must "go round". This means revving the engines back up but, the aircraft continues to drop until the speed picks up. Just as the speed picks up the aircraft pops through the mist and sees the runway but it is too late!
Very frustrating if you have to go back to Gatwick!!
Hope you are all enjoying a lovely weekend!
