Dribs and Drabs of 2014

By RodgerEvans01

As far as I'm concerned...

it's close enough to spring. Solstice people can wait until the 20th or 21st, but tonight the clocks "spring forward." One of the few useful things that the Canadian Gov't has done in the last decade (read between the lines - I'm a Canadian Research Scientist...) is expand Daylight Savings Time. The self-diagnosed-SAD that I sometimes use as an excuse to rant about winter will most likely disappear soon...

So how better to celebrate than a new pair of Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars. These have been a personal fav for the past 30 years!! A staple for the alternative-punk scene of the late 70's early 80's (at least for those that couldn't afford Doc Martin boots), I've used them as golf shoes, winter boots (double up the wool socks), and squash shoes (one of the few black soled shoes not to leave marks). I've had black, white, red, green, blue, grey, suede, and mustard, and alternate between high-tops (fall/winter), and low tops (spring summer).

Much to the chagrin of the world traveller, who also happens to be a nurse, I can't see myself in form fitting, uber-supporting, gel-soled cross-trainers, jogging, etc. shoes. Supposedly the inherent lack of support of the Converse All Star will affect me and my back later on in life. I point to the fact that Chuck-T's were standard issue to school children in the 50's and 60's, and standard fare in the NBA before the advent of Air Jordan's. She doesn't buy my argument....

Finally, this just so happens to fall under MissyMoo's March 9th challenge - Faceless Self Portrait. It also could have easily also been used for yesterday's "Favourite."
