Larch Cottage
I worked at the studio this morning and then this afternoon we did a repeat of last Wednesday, meeting Kanyl at Larch Cottage Nurseries. That being a nice quiet place (at the moment) for coffee, a bit of exercise and blipping.
This time I decided to use nothing but my new Lensbaby Composer Pro 11 with the Sweet 50 optic. Well, it certainly made me think a lot. This lens has an articulated section that can be used to displace the out-of-focus areas in an arty way.
So, there's choosing how much, if any, displacement do I want?
What aperture to set to establish depth of field I want?
Which flowers will give me the sort of finished image I want?
Then, as there's no electrics in the lens, I have to check the exposure meter for every shot and set it to zero. Plus, there's no autofocus so which bit do I actually want to focus on?
It certainly made me think about my photography in a new way and not just go round snap, snap, snapping! I thought I may well come home with nothing fit to blip!
I chose this tulip but decided to use the lens again to photograph extra things around the house to form a background.
