Tulip Time at Childhood's Gate

It was a spring morning that turned into a summer afternoon in central Pennsylvania. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and temperatures were nearing 80 when my husband dropped me off at the Arboretum, while he ran some errands around town.

Many years, there has been a huge tulip display near the Sundial, but the construction of the bird and pollinator gardens has rendered that area inaccessible, and so there is no grand display. The best tulips this year can be found in the children's garden, Childhood's Gate.

The tulips were at peak last week, and right now they are just a tad past that, though there is still lots of good color. Please enjoy the photo above of the blooms, a few trellises, and the Glass House, with that pink redbud in the background. In the extras is a detail of tulips and fritillaries.

My soundtrack for these two images of tulips is Richard Marx covering Carole King's famous tune, Beautiful.
