Who made that mess in our garden?

Pic on the right is the scattered bark stripped from a dead tree in our garden. The other pic is the tree which as you can see has several branches where the bark has been stripped off. Who would do such a thing? Well I caught the little destroyer as he gave himself away with his loud pecking sounds.....yes a woodpecker! I hope he comes and clears up when he has finished.
