Goosanders ( Mergus merganser )
Out for our weekly walk, an excuse under lockdown for a good catch up, Kanyl and I spotted this pair of Goosanders enjoying the River Greta near Threlkeld. Well I spotted the male and had taken a few shots of him before I realised she was on a boulder nearby. I a short wait got them both in the viewfinder.
Goosanders are of no conservation concern and breed virtually everywhere north of the Tees/Exe line (remember you geography lessons from school). In winter they can be found almost anywhere in the country. As I was pointing them out to Kanyl a runner stopped to ask what we had seen, explaining his son was off looking for Pied Flycatchers.
