Meet Sylvanus

This morning we took Chloe for a good wander through Nethercroy Woods up to the brand new Roman soldiers head sculpture. In view of the size, 18/20 feet high, I reckon he should have been called Sylvanus Maximus!
I really like this bit of public art.
The area is very close to the old Antonine Wall which ran from Old Kirkpatrick on the Clyde to Carriden on the Forth and was built not of stone like Hadrian’s Wall but of stacked turf with a wooden palisade on top.
I am not sure whether the purpose was to keep the northern Scots away from the south or vice-versa.
Later we drove to Wishaw and had an alfresco lunch with friends in line with the current guidelines. Many thanks S & I for a lovely lunch and great chat.
