It's a good thing i was here to help Dad get the ballot papers into envelope and then that into the postal envelope.

Mum hated doing this and feels, as I do, that voting needs to be a public, visible, normal civic duty fulfilled within your community in a place where you see other voters, say hello to neighbours you bump into in ignorance of how they cast their vote, see due process properly administered. Postal votes a necessity rather than a norm. The form-filling creates a disconnect.

I sincerely hope we return to in-person voting post-COVID. Ideally, at the weekend as Thursday is ridiculous.
