A time for everything

Beach view

Monday
We awoke this morning to rain, and we had obviously had a fair bit overnight. So we decided to stay in bed a little bit longer! By the time we’d had breakfast, however, the rain had stopped, and people were walking on the beach, so I decided to join them. Roger came with me for a little way, but then turned back, he got some blisters on his toes the other day, and they burst, and the sand irritates them. I continued for another mile or two. Even the birds weren’t too impressed with the weather, there were quite large groups of royal terns, black skimmers and sanderlings, all huddled together, many of them with their heads tucked into their feathers! (See extra). Soon after I got back, the weather did seem to be slowly clearing a bit, so we took our books onto the beach. I kept my clothes on, whilst Roger put his bathers on and went in the water with his surf board. We left the beach about 4.30, then drove to the bay side of the island, to an ice cream shop we remembered from our last visit here Christmas of 2018. The ice cream shop was near the City fishing pier, which when we were there in 2018, was no longer there, having been severely damaged by Hurricane Irma. However, in the meantime they have rebuilt it. After our ice cream, we walked along the bayside to another shorter fishing pier which was pretty close to our Christmas 2018 accommodation, and I would often go there first thing in the morning to catch the sunrise, being the bayside. Our accommodation that time was near the northern tip off the island, so it was just a short walk to the beach side or the bayside. When we got back to our apartment w e enjoyed a drink, while we watched the sun sink into the ocean, then went out for some very good Italian food!
