Mile post

Spotted this cylindrical granite Mile post in a layby beside Tyrie Kirk today. This would once have been the turnpike between Banff and Fraserburgh. It indicates the distance to the stone at the junction of Cross Street and Hanover Street in Fraserburgh town centre from which distances were measured. (See Blip of 14 July 2020) As late as the 1960s my Aunt refered to the road as the turnpike.
