The Case Of The Curious Egg
Today's image was again taken in Maidstone and is from the viewpoint of this curious egg sculpture in a rose garden which sits just below the Archbishops' Palace (a 14th and 16th Century building on the east bank of the River Medway, which was originally a home from home for travelling archbishops from Canterbury) and towards the bell tower of The All Saints Parish Church.
There is no plaque confirming who the artist is, what it represents and when it was erected and I have been unable to find any details on local history or cultural websites - apart from a post on Flickr where someone had managed to unearth comments from a councillor in a Maidstone Borough Council meeting in July 2007 who raised a question about "expensive municipal follies"!
There had been a mixed response to other public artworks in the town but the Leader of the Council confirmed there would be further artworks including a "Maidstone Marker" on the west bank of the River Medway and an "Egg" sculpture in the Rose Garden of the Archbishops' Palace.
