Jetty Street
I was back in Cromer today to return 2 of the 6 lights I'd bought at Homebase as they didn't work, plus I wanted to get my passbooks updated at YBS. A long conversation about a new ISA and consolidating accounts resulted in forms taken home to fill in and an appointment tomorrow (the teller kept getting very confused so I thought it best not to simply leave the completed forms which she kept changing). Another lovely sunny afternoon and some gardening including watering.
Day 399 / Day 8 of Step 2 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
UK deaths up 4 to 127,274 (revised basis), with 2,963 new cases, 2,186 patients in hospital, 332 on ventilation and 179 new admissions. 32.9m have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 10.2m have had their second dose. India has finally been added to the England's 'red list' for travel but bizarrely not until Friday, with the PM's visit there next week cancelled and 182 cases of the India variant now found in the UK (our controls have been woefully inadequate for this variant). The University of Oxford is to run a 'human challenge' trial on volunteers aged 18-30 who have previously had Covid to assess what dose is needed to cause a reinfection. They will be quarantined for 17 days and received a payment of c£5k. A travel bubble has been opened up between Australia and New Zealand. HSBC plans to shrink their office space by 40% post pandemic and top managers in their Canary Wharf HQ will lose their offices and have to hot desk on an open-plan floor.
