Wild Saturday night out

A gorgeous day for a picnic bike ride. But the highlight was a night out surveying for newts by torchlight at a local nature reserve. There were just four of us, working in two pairs. My friend and I were like a pair of excitable teenagers! Especially once we found our first great crested newt. Wow, they are big and definitely look like the bosses. And another pond was heaving with palmate newts that are really cute with their webbed feet.
