McKinney Kauri

On our trip to the Kauri Coast last weekend we didn't manage to see any of the large Kauri trees in the wild. So today we made up for that by calling in at the Parry Kauri Park near Warkworth which is only twenty minutes away. The main is of the largest tree in the park and is named after the Rev Robert McKinney who was the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in the region. Later the land was purchased by the Simpson family who requested that on the sale of their land the trees and bush be preserved for the public. The Simpson Kauri is shown in the extra with some of the outdoor exhibits from the Warkworth museum.
