Antony House
A family visit today to Antony House, near Torpoint in Cornwall. The Carew family have lived on this estate since the 15th century. The present house was built in 1721 and is faced with grey, pentewan stone. The carew family are no strangers to the dramas of their times. Two brothers, Alexander and John, are remembered for their contrasting roles in History. Sir Alexander Carew was beheaded in London in December 1644 for plotting to deliver St Nicholas Island (now Drakes Island) to the Royalist enemy. In contrast his brother John Carew was one of the judges who tried King Charles I, but was then himself executed in 1660.
