Soft and Velvety
Still practising with the Lensbaby Velvet 56 and getting to know its advantages and disadvantages; it's really a macro lens with focussing foibles or talents (depending on how conditioned you are to sharp focus). Most images do need a point of focus - out of focus is quite distinguishable from the soft glow given by this lens, all controlled by the aperture dial. I had a fly on a petal tack sharp at the narrow aperture of f16 but this image, with the lens wide open at f1.6, is totally different - I love it. The added challenge of all manual focus and no electrical connection to the camera is an added challenge.
A camera club meeting earlier this morning and judging for a club near York later on will make for a pretty full day!
