Donkeys Through Bread And Cheese
My attention was drawn to the horse sanctuary this morning by lots of fluttering, criss-crossing, red and white tape. I'm guessing the area below it has been recently seeded and the tapes are to deter the pigeons.
I peered at the donkeys through the lovely fresh hawthorn leaves, known as bread and cheese. Called this because, although tasting nothing like bread and cheese, they are good to eat. I heard someone on YouTube today associating the term with the song of the yellowhammer - a little bit of bread and no cheese . A false association in my view. I've added an image of fresh hawthorn leaves to extras.
