Looking forward, looking back

I often tell my students that living life fretting about the past is like driving along looking only in the rear-view mirror.

As P drove me home today, the view ahead was rather grismal, but the view in the wing-mirror was of a beautiful sky.

Looking backwards from time to time enables us to learn and to remind ourselves of past joys.
