Clootie Well

I had to make a 'mercy mission' to deliver a chemical to a school on the Black Isle this afternoon. On the way home I stopped at the Clootie Well near Munlochy. It gets its name from the 'cloots' (pieces of cloth) that are hung around it.
Some visitors to the well believe it has healing powers. If a diseased part of a body is washed with a rag and that rag is then hung at the well, over time the rag disintegrates and so does the disease. It is thought to date back to the time of St Boniface who worked as a missionary in Scotland in about AD620.I have to say that in the dreich and dreary weather I found the place slightly unsettling.
