Fear

Another wander down memory lane.

Today we are asked " Fear: What are you afraid of? What does fear look like to you?"

This is what fear looks like to me. This astonishing photograph was published by the Daily Mirror in 1962. My father, who was a great collector of newspaper clippings, kept this in one of his scrapbooks. It shows a jet fighter plummeting nose first towards the ground while an astonished farmer looks on. Fortunately the pilot, George Aird, survived this terrifying ordeal, as did the farmer.

I was six years old when this event occurred. Ever since then, I have been terrified of flying. This has been a bit of a problem, because one of the things I love to do more than almost anything else is travel. I've been all over the world, and of course I've had to fly, but the only way I can do it is to down anti-anxiety meds and sleeping pills.
