What's up?

What is a photograph?  ten years ago the answer was simple: a device with a lens on the side for taking an image.

Today photos are taken on phones and pushed through apps- like this one of a piebald horse up the road.  Itis neither a straightforward photograph nor a digital painting but exists in some hinterland between the two.
