Bluebells

The spaniel and I walked the woodland butterfly transect this morning. No butterflies but lots of orchids and bluebells coming along nicely.

I just heard about the death of the Duke of Edinburgh which reminded me of this brief meeting with my father. The Duke  came to do the official opening of the Princess Marina College for the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. My father was the engineer overseeing the work and was in the line up presented to the Duke. The Duke asked what he was going to do now that it was finished. My father said "Build something else, Sir".  The Duke went off, muttering "Bloody engineers, don't know when to stop."
