Painting on the edge
This morning I was visiting Special Collections in the University Library and was shown some of their recent acquisitions. This one caught my eye. It is a beautifully bound book of Sir Walter Scott's Marmion in its 12th edition.
The edges are in gilt, but when they are fanned slightly, you can see a painting of the home of Sir Walter at Abbotsford. Very impressive.
