Place

There seems to be a lot of talk in planning circles at the moment about place and place-making. I'm not 100% sure what folk are banging on about but I think this notion of 'place' is simply about how layers of human/natural influence and experience combine over time to help create some feeling of attachment to a particular place - for individuals, families and whole communities.

The village in today's blip is Topcliffe in North Yorkshire and it's just up the road from where I grew up in Asenby. I left home when I was 20 to move to Glasgow and I guess my direct/tangible link to this 'place' became less strong at this point. I still think of Asenby as 'my place' though and going home for visits is one of my all time favourite things to do.
