A Sense of the Past

Like everywhere else in Britain it was cold today. No snow, but not long after this shot was taken there was a heavy shower of hail. We drove the short distance from home to Buckland Abbey. The picture here shows one of the outbuildings, that may have been a small chapel after the dissolution of the monasteries. This part of the estate, the walled vegetable garden and what is called the cider garden, is usually very peaceful and to me gives much more of a sense of what monastic life is about, than the main building, which was once the home of Sir Francis Drake.
