War paint

On another day when we can’t see the valley and the rain is not departing, what Blip can I publish except from inside the house. If the weather doesn’t improve soon you’ll know our home as well as we do!

The faces depicted are from Papua New Guinea where we lived for a few years. This is not only ceremonial war paint. When warring tribes meet, often in the Highlands, this is how they would decorate themselves. Otherwise used for Sing Sings (a coming together for weddings, funerals etc).

We had the privilege of seeing hundreds of these groups competing in Goroka at the Highland Show.
