London adventure
The sun put its hat on for Easter and it was much appreciated. It was the first West Norwood Feast of the year and it was lovely to see people enjoying the sunshine. I've taken a year off volunteering for the Feast and it was nice to pick up goods from my favourite stalls without having to worry about crowd control or whether the footfall was getting to all traders. I'm sure I miss all the positive aspects of Feasting, too – the idea is that once I miss those more than the other bits, I'll return. In the meantime, I'll support by buying all the delicious marmalade, tomato sauce, granola, cardamom buns and blueberry crumble cake that I can.
After stocking up at Feast, we cycled to see the River Thames via the Dulwich to Elephant Castle (a confusing combination of various official cycle routes), then joined the huge amount of cyclists travelling west along the Embankment. It's great to see so many out and about. At one point, the cyclists took over the main road as there were far too many for the cycle lane. These were mainly teenagers. Impressive wheelies! There were also tuk-tuk type cycle taxis blaring out pop – I've still have Cher in my head. I'm not sure if it's an improvement on the Genesis song I woke up with this morning: Invisible Touch.
St James's Park was too busy for us, so we headed down to the river and came across this quote in a display of onions and art by Blewcoat School.
Crossing Vauxhall Bridge to Oval, we followed the cycle route Quietway 5 through Clapham – this is a likely candidate for my route to the new office in Nine Elms. It certainly is quiet, until we hit Clapham Common, then it's not great having bikes on the same narrow paths as pedestrians.
Clapham Common was also busy with people in the sunshine and there was a lady walking her cat on a lead. My brain took a while to figure out what dog breed it was.
Safe home and I'm sure Juno enjoyed having a break from his humans. He was flaked out on the bed.
Happy Easter!
