Deskford Sacrament House

This wondrous sacrament house was gifted to Deskford Kirk in 1551 by Alexander Ogilvy. His arms and those his wife, Elizabeth Gordon are in the panel below the actual sacrament house. The gift of the sacrament house demonstrates how it was believed that personal salvation could be secured through making ostentatious donations to the church. The extra shows the kirk, and two rare Victorian churchyard features - a cast iron headstone and an immortelle - a glass dome containing everlasting flowers. Once a popular form of floral tribute, very few have survived but this example has a protective wire cage.
