Aquhorthies Stone Circle

Aberdeenshire abounds in stone circles, an embarrassment of riches, watching generations of humans come and go, in various guises and for various purposes, over thousands of years.

Visited one today i can't believe i'd never set eyes on before. I sat in the middle having a gloriously crazy picnic of sorts with the lovely D, set in beautiful countryside, piercing blue sky above, Bennachie to our backs, in 19° heat, zenning out mesmerised by a sheepdog working sheep across fields in front of us. Magical stones.

The sky got wonderfully moody with the promise of heat meeting rain at some point as we left, but the stones totally work that atmospheric vibe. And that rain never did come.
