Back on course
The annual local nature conservancy group's amphibian crossing action took off well in second March week as it got warm but then suddenly came to an abrupt halt as snow and bitter cold temperatures returned. Now we have again got reasonable weather it has resumed.
There is a good kilometre of fencing along the road that divides the local lakes from the fields. Morning & evenings voluntary helpers collect the toads, frogs & newts and carry them over the road. The council erects a 30 km/h speed limit and one is asked to take a detour during the night.
