Sunset Over The Canal

Here a view over the Lauriersgracht, Amsterdam.
My father just moved here. Not bad!

The Lauriergracht is the middle of the canals in the Jordaan, a famous area in the center of Amsterdam.
The canal is 400 meters long, dug at the site of the former Kaatsbaanpad.
The other canals are : Egelantiersgracht (472 meters), the Bloemgracht (430 meters), Passeerdersgracht (230 meters) and the Looiersgracht (243 meters).
It is the only canal between the Prinsengracht and the Lijnbaansgracht which still contains water.
The Lauriergracht had a certain grandeur that is deflected by some great buildings, like
the Roman Catholic Boys Orphanage, the monastery de Voorzienigheid (associated with different schools) and the Lutheran Orphanage. They all had an important influence on the canal.

One of the first art dealers from the Dutch Golden Age, Gerrit van Uylenburgh, lived here.
