The Black Mount
"And the road is blocked near the village of Rest and be Thankful"
That's the kind of strange road reports you get from non local radio stations. If I go off at a tangent a moment a recent Radio 2 road report had me cringing at attempts at "Drymen" and "Milngavie" on the same bulletin. The poor lady must have had a deluge of texts from irate listeners because her next program was delivered with immaculate pronunciation.
For clarity Drymen is like Drimmin (two short syllables) and Milngavie is said like Mill-Guy. The tourist can be forgiven but our reporters should do better.
Anyway, we were working at a stretch of road, a mountain pass, not a village, known as the Rest and be Thankful and the foregoing broadcast came back to mind.
Its a long drive and then a busy day so there was always the possibility of a CRSS (Cheap road side blip). And so it came to pass.
This is taken a marathon like 50 paces from the car which was pulled a safe distance on to the A82 verge. It is the view across Lochan na h-Achlaise towards a massif known as The Black Mount. On a good day, particularly an early morning in winter, it is a spot of real beauty. Obviously it was a bit misty this morning. My only issue with it is that it is so accessible. On my 50 yard dash across the moor to the loch edge I saw obscene amounts of litter and more debris along the shore line.
We really need massive fines imposed on the clowns who have so little regard for our wilderness or towns.
